Change a Song’s Key Without Speeding It Up or Slowing It Down

If you've ever practiced a song that felt just a little too high or too low, you know how much difference one semitone can make. The right key lets you focus on singing rather than fighting the highest notes. This free online pitch shifter helps you try a new key while keeping the rhythm and duration of the song the same.

How do I find a comfortable key for my voice?

Start with the original. Sing the chorus, especially the notes you have to sustain. If the top notes strain your voice, try lowering the track by one semitone. If the lowest phrases disappear below your comfortable range, move up instead. One or two semitones is often enough to tell whether a different key works better.

What is a semitone?

A semitone is the distance between two neighboring piano keys, including black keys. Moving from C to C♯ is one semitone; from C to D is two. You can shift your song from −4 to +4 semitones here, one step at a time.

Does changing the pitch affect tempo?

Not with this kind of pitch shifting. Ordinary speed changes also alter the pitch and the song's duration. This tool uses audio processing to change pitch independently: a four-minute recording remains approximately four minutes after transposition. Extreme shifts may introduce audible artifacts, particularly in vocals, cymbals or dense mixes.

Can I transpose a whole MP3 recording?

Yes. Select your MP3, listen to the original or the shifted recording, and download the adjusted version. The entire stereo mix changes pitch together: vocals, instruments and all. The tool doesn't separate individual instruments or remove vocals.
