THE SINGER’S RESOURCE

Backing Tracks FAQ

Everything singers need to know about finding a song, choosing the right version, changing the key, and getting ready to perform.

01

Finding the Right Backing Track

Search by song, artist or style, and find the arrangement you need.

Where can I buy professional backing tracks online?

You can browse and purchase professional backing tracks at Superbackings. The catalog includes downloadable MP3 recordings for singers, musicians and performers, with several instrumental versions available for many songs.

What is a backing track?

A backing track is a recorded musical accompaniment for a singer or instrumentalist. It typically contains the instruments from a song without the main lead vocal, letting you perform that part yourself.

What is the difference between a karaoke track and a backing track?

People often use the terms interchangeably. Karaoke is commonly associated with recreational singing and on-screen lyrics, whereas backing tracks are also used for rehearsals, auditions and live shows. What matters most is the arrangement, recording quality and whether the vocal and instrument parts suit your performance.

Are backing tracks the same as the original artist’s recording?

Not necessarily. Many professional backing tracks are newly produced recordings that recreate the arrangement and feel of a familiar song. They should not be confused with the original artist’s commercial master recording.

How can I find a backing track for a specific song or artist?

Use the catalog search or browse the A to Z index. Open a song page to check its available versions and listen to the preview before selecting a track.

Where can I find rare or hard-to-find backing tracks?

Try searching Superbackings by song title and artist, particularly for older recordings or less frequently performed music. If your song is not in the catalog, you can request a custom backing track.

Can I find backing tracks for musical theatre and auditions?

The Superbackings catalog covers a range of music, including selections from musical theatre alongside pop, rock, country and other styles. Search for the show or song title and make sure the arrangement, length and key match your audition requirements.

Does Superbackings add new backing tracks?

Yes. Visit New Releases to explore recent additions, or browse the catalog by artist and song title.

02

Vocals, Versions & Instrumental Tracks

Understand the labels before you add a song to your cart.

Do backing tracks include the lead singer’s voice?

Backing tracks are generally intended for you to perform the lead vocal yourself. Some versions include background harmonies while others do not, so check the available version on the song page.

What does FV mean in backing tracks?

FV means Full Version. At Superbackings, this is the complete backing arrangement, including background vocal parts when they are part of that particular recording.

What does WV mean in backing tracks?

WV means Without Backing Vocals. Choose this when you want the instrumental accompaniment without the additional background or harmony voices.

Where can I buy backing tracks without guitar?

Look for the GT version on eligible Superbackings song pages. It omits the guitar part, so you can play along with the other instruments.

Are backing tracks without bass available?

Yes. Look for the BS version where available. It omits the bass part so a bassist can perform with the rest of the accompaniment.

What is a medley backing track?

A medley joins parts of several songs in one continuous arrangement. It can be particularly useful for themed shows, live sets and performances that move between familiar songs without a full stop.

Does every song have FV, WV, GT and BS versions?

No. Available versions depend on the individual recording. The selection buttons on each Superbackings song page show which versions can actually be purchased.

Which backing track version should I choose?

If you want background harmonies, consider FV. If you prefer no backing vocals, choose WV. Guitarists can look for GT, and bass players for BS, where available. You can also read the guide to versions.

03

Changing Key, Pitch & Audio

Choose a comfortable singing key and customize your sound.

How can I change the key of a song without changing the tempo?

Use a pitch shifter designed to adjust pitch independently of playback speed. The Superbackings Free Online Pitch Shifter lets you transpose an MP3 while keeping its original tempo.

How many semitones can I change a song?

The public Superbackings Key Changer supports transposition from four semitones down to four semitones up. Start with a small adjustment and listen for any change in audio quality.

Is there a free online pitch shifter for singers?

Yes. With the free Key Changer, you can preview different keys in your browser. A free account is required for exporting processed MP3 files, with a limit of five downloads per day.

Can I upload my own MP3 to change its key?

Yes. The public Key Changer accepts MP3 files up to 10 MB and processes the audio in your browser. This is a separate tool from the customer-only Audio Lab.

What is Superbackings Audio Lab?

Audio Lab is an online audio customization workspace for eligible tracks purchased from Superbackings. It provides controls for pitch, equalization, dynamics and audio export.

Can I adjust the bass and treble of a backing track online?

Yes. Audio Lab provides a five-band equalizer for eligible purchased tracks, letting you adjust the frequency balance for your speakers, rehearsal space or musical preference.

Can I export a backing track as WAV or MP3?

Audio Lab supports exporting processed eligible tracks as WAV (16-bit PCM) or MP3 (320 kbps). The public Free Online Pitch Shifter exports MP3.

Does changing a song’s pitch affect audio quality?

It can. Pitch shifting digitally processes the recording, and larger transpositions may introduce audible artifacts. Listen carefully before exporting, especially with dense arrangements, cymbals and layered vocals.

Buying, Downloading & Using Your Tracks

What happens at checkout, and where to find your purchased files.

How do I buy a backing track from Superbackings?

Find the song you want, select one of its available versions, choose Add to Cart and complete checkout. When the order has been prepared and completed, the files become available through your customer account.

Are Superbackings backing tracks available for instant download?

Not always. Purchased files are prepared and made available in your account after the order is processed. You may see a pending status while the files are being prepared.

How long does it take to receive my backing tracks?

The current order information indicates approximately 1 to 12 hours for preparation, depending on when you order. If you need music for an imminent rehearsal or performance, purchase ahead of time.

Where can I download the tracks I purchased?

Sign in to your Superbackings account and open your orders or music library. Completed purchases with available files can be downloaded there.

What audio format are Superbackings backing tracks sold in?

Catalog backing tracks are sold as MP3 recordings, a format supported by most modern computers, phones and compatible audio playback equipment.

How much does a backing track cost?

The current price is displayed on each individual song page before you add the track to your cart. Custom productions are quoted separately according to the request.

Can I buy several backing tracks in one order?

Yes. Add the songs and available versions you want to the cart before checking out, so you can purchase music for an entire rehearsal or set list in a single order.

What happens if my backing track download expires?

Expired purchases may remain visible in your account, but their audio files are no longer available until the existing reactivation process is completed. They also cannot be opened in Audio Lab until access is restored.

05

Custom Tracks, Performances & Licensing

For special arrangements, vocal covers and live performances.

Can I order a backing track for a song that isn’t in the catalog?

Yes. If your song is unavailable, you can request a custom backing track and explain what you need. This is useful for rare songs, different arrangements and specific performance requirements.

What is the difference between a catalog backing track and a custom backing track?

A catalog backing track is an existing recording ready to purchase. A custom track is a new production requested for your project, with the arrangement, instruments and other details agreed before recording.

Can I request a custom backing track in a different key?

Yes. When requesting a quote, specify the key that suits your voice, or explain how many semitones you want the song transposed. The arrangement can be planned around that requirement.

Can a custom backing track have a different musical arrangement?

Yes. You can ask about changing the instrumentation, structure or style. Include a clear reference recording and your requirements in the quote request so the producer can review them.

Can I request a backing track without a particular instrument?

Yes. A custom production can be arranged without a specified instrument, such as lead guitar or piano, leaving space for you to perform that part live.

How do I request a custom backing track quote?

Open the Custom Backing Tracks Quote form. Send the song title, a YouTube link or reference MP3, and your arrangement notes so the producer can assess your request.

Can I use backing tracks for live singing and rehearsals?

Backing tracks are intended for singing practice, rehearsals, auditions and performances. If you perform copyrighted music publicly, applicable performance-rights requirements are separate from buying the audio file and should be checked with the venue or relevant licensing organization.

Can I record my vocals over a Superbackings backing track and release the song on Spotify, YouTube or Apple Music?

Yes! You can record your own vocals over a backing track purchased from Superbackings and release your finished recording on platforms such as Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music and Amazon Music. You do not need to pay Superbackings an additional licensing fee for this use. However, you may not resell, share or redistribute the original backing track files separately. You are responsible for any licenses and royalties required for the underlying song; your distributor may handle some of these requirements. You can also use Audio Lab to customize eligible purchased tracks before recording your vocals.
