Superbackings began with a simple idea: a singer deserves better than a lifeless instrumental. Behind this catalogue is Nico Barroso, a musician, singer and record producer who has spent decades listening closely to the details that make a song feel right.

The story behind the sound
Long before the website, there was the music.
Nico started playing piano as a child, picked up classical guitar a few years later and became fascinated with recording technology in his teens. There were tape machines, early digital recorders and, eventually, computers. Each new piece of equipment changed what was possible. None of it replaced the need to listen.
By the late 1990s he was making backing tracks professionally. The early days meant basic computers, MIDI, guitars, keyboards and a lot of trial and learning! He eventually worked on music for well-known karaoke catalogues and built a growing collection with fellow musicians.
What became Superbackings is part of that journey: years of arranging, recording, mixing and making songs available to performers around the world. Not every track has the same story, but they all belong to the same long-running musical project.
Nico has spent time behind the mixing desk — and in front of the microphone. That second perspective matters.

More than pressing play
A good backing track leaves room for the singer.
A guitar fill can be perfectly in time and still feel wrong. The bass can hit every note but miss the groove. And a mix that sounds exciting on headphones might leave a singer fighting to hear themselves on stage.
Those are the things Nico has learned to pay attention to, both as a producer and as someone who has sung in front of audiences. Music isn't just a file to download. Somebody has to rehearse with it, sing over it, or take it onto a stage.
For a completely new custom production, the work starts with the reference song: understanding its arrangement, recording the parts, choosing the right sounds and shaping a mix that supports the performance. It's a personal process, not simply removing a vocal from a finished recording.
